Good morning, im richard lui. Several performers are recovering this morning after a high wire circus act gone wrong in rhode island. The accident, which may be disturbing for some to watch, happened in front of a crowd of almost 5,000 people. There it was. At least nine acrobats were injured. Two of them critically. Ringling bros. Cancelled two performances. Ron mott reports from providence for us. Reporter amateur video shows a curtain being lowered just before the rigging collapsed from high above the circus floor. Eight female acrobats suspended by a hair hanging apparatus plunged to the ground about 35 feet, a male performer in the ring was also injured by the collapse. Police say 22yearold elliot rhone was heavily armed and mentally disturbed when he launched what he called a a day of retribution, starting in his apartment, stabbing three men to death and went to a Sorority House where he shot and killed two women. Next he drove to a deli, where he killed a man, a Uc Santa Barbara student. He kept driving and shooting until he died during a gunbattle with sheriffs deputies. Three 9 mm. Semiautomatic handguns were recovered from the suspects vehicle. We have determined that all of these weapons were legally purchased from federally linessed firearms dealers and that they were all registered to the suspect. The sheriff said that deputies shot rodger in the hip, but that he apparently died of a selfinflicted gunshot wound to the head. His bmw was taken away as evidence. We begin with the first case of mers transmitted on u. S. Soil. Federal Health Officials believe an illinois man picked up the virus after shaking hands with an indiana man. Now, centers for Disease Control investigators are trying to figure out how to keep the potentially deadly virus from spreading any further. An unidentified illinois businessman is believed to be the first mers infection transmitted right here in the u. S. At first he tested negative but a followup test showed his body fought off the potentially fatal disease. Every single case is different.
