Police say 22yearold elliot rhone was heavily armed and mentally disturbed when he launched what he called a a day of retribution, starting in his apartment, stabbing three men to death and went to a Sorority House where he shot and killed two women. Next he drove to a deli, where he killed a man, a Uc Santa Barbara student. He kept driving and shooting until he died during a gunbattle with sheriffs deputies. Three 9 mm. Semiautomatic handguns were recovered from the suspects vehicle. We have determined that all of these weapons were legally purchased from federally linessed firearms dealers and that they were all registered to the suspect. The sheriff said that deputies shot rodger in the hip, but that he apparently died of a selfinflicted gunshot wound to the head. His bmw was taken away as evidence. Tonight were getting a look at newly released Surveillance Video from the deli, the site of one of those shootings. People inside dropped to the floor as glass on one of the refrigerator doors shatters. The Santa BarbaraSheriffs Office says its going over 12 different crime scenes at ten different locations in the beachside community. The shooter is son of a hollywood director, who was hant director on the hungry games. Hours before the shooting, rodger posted a video to youtube, where he ranted against women who snubbed him. Rodger also published a 140 page manifesto. He was a student at Santa Barbara city college. Hundreds gathered on the campus of Uc Santa Barbara to mourn the victims. Deputies confirmed that they did a welfare check on april 30th, and found rodger to be polite and courteous. Along with those youtube rants rodger shared a 140page manifesto with a uc Berkeley Student who he met in an online forum of its full of frustration about not being able to find rhommance and writes i am not meant to live such a pathetic, miserable life. That is not my place in the world. I will not bow down and accept such a horrific fate. Reporter ken, this checkpoint has been underway for about 45 minutes and officers are pulling cars into the lane, trying to make sure that people are not drinking and driving and so far tell me one person has been arrested for driving under the influence of marijuana and a couple of other drivers with undergoing field sent tests in the ingleside entrance. Officers set up this checkpoint about 8 00 tonight, putting up signs and funneling traffic down to one lane. Officers started stopping drivers around 9 15 this evening and so far they have stop more than 100 cars. They come up, and they get funneled into a single lane and at that point its a mutual formula, random pick. As five cars come up, we wave them into your five interview stall and release five cars. Reporter the sergeant says typically during a Holiday Weekend, anywhere from 510 will fetarrested for driving under the influence and many will get stopped for trying to avoid the checkpoint and officers typically write 2040 citations for suspended licenses and other violations. The end goal is primarily to keep the streets safe for the drivers trying to get home safely from parties or Family Functions or going out to dippers, so that the roadways are safe and for education. He may not have his first coaching win under the belt yet, but he is not going into this venture wideeyed and without a plan. A lot of guys have had success doing it this, doc rivers went from the broadcast booth to the sidelines and he one is of the best coaches in the league. You look at jason kidd, going right from playing into coach and did a nice job with brooklyn and mark turned it around here. There are a lot of trends that happen in the league and im probably fortunate there have been a former broadcasters and firsttime coach has have done well. Reporter among the variables that played into the decision to bring kerr to the warriors is something as simpwillle as a gut feel and perfect fit for both sides. It came down to what was in hi heart and a number of factors that went into that. Its a difficult process to sort of absorb all of the information and try to figure it all the out, especially when you have two incredibly enticing opportunities. But for me, after sitting down with the warriors, and sleeping on it the next morning i woke up and i knew this is where i wanted to be and couldnt be happier. Steve said it so well, this is not about next year, but the next 510 years with our goal of winning a championship. I think they all know that. We want that. I want that and were not going to stop until we get it and we will get it.
