For the first time since 1951, Nebraska has had to have a special election to replace Rep. Jeff Fortenberry after he resigned. But in conjunction with a redistricting year, the election has left some voters unrepresented.
“Security and efficiency are at the heart of Nebraska’s elections, and Tuesday’s primary was an excellent example of the time-tested measures that have made our elections a national model,” said John Cartier, Civic Nebraska’s director of voting rights.
Vote-by-mail numbers for Sarpy County are down considerably from past years, with around 2,500 requests so far. Yet Dodge County, which is nearly five times smaller, has about the same number of vote-by-mail requests.
Lincoln-based nonprofit Civic Nebraska is looking for volunteers to serve as nonpartisan election observers for the upcoming primary and general elections.
