TECUMSEH The Tecumseh school board will have a special meeting 6 p.m. June 3 at Tecumseh High School to fill the seat left open by the resignation of Treasurer John Benzing last week.
Benzing cited decreased availability due to work issues and the changing composition of the board as the reasons for his resignation.
The board will first interview candidates and then choose one among the candidates to serve.
So far, there is a pool of three candidates, two of which have a great deal of familiarity with the board Joshua Mattison, who was once the director of facilities and maintenance for Tecumseh Public Schools, and Mary Tommelein, who worked as a teacher and counselor for 39 years, mostly at Tecumseh Public Schools. Chris Peoples is new to showing interest in serving on the board and is the associate pastor at Faith Baptist Church in Adrian as well as a teacher assistant and long-term substitute te

TECUMSEH, MI – A former member of the Tecumseh Public Schools Board of Education has reapplied for the seat she won in November 2020 after it was determined she did not take the Oath of Office at a January organizational meeting.
Becky Brooks says she was assured she didn’t need to take the oath during a January 2021 meeting because she had been reelected to her seat rather than taking office for the first time.
Tecumseh schools aim to start before Labor Day

TECUMSEH Students, faculty and staff in Tecumseh are going to make another attempt at starting the school year a week before Labor Day.
Tecumseh, like all but two other districts in Lenawee County, is planning to start the 2021-22 school year on Aug. 30, Superintendent Rick Hilderley told the Tecumseh Board of Education at its meeting Monday. He said Addison and Sand Creek are planning to start Aug. 23.
Tecumseh and the other districts in the county received waivers last year from the Michigan Department of Education to start school up to two weeks before Labor Day. Michigan law requires districts to start classes after Labor Day, unless they obtain a waiver from the state.
