PREP ROUNDUP: Cougars win Alexandria Holiday Invite Staff Report ALEXANDRIA The Greenfield-Central boys basketball team won two straight to seize the Alexandria Holiday Invitational championship on Wednesday. The Class 4A Cougars opened the holiday tournament with a 60-53 victory over 2A Sheridan in the morning session before knocking off the host 2A Tigers, 59-37, in the championship game. Greenfield-Central stormed out to a 20-6 lead during the title game and built a 29-20 advantage by halftime before outscoring the Tigers 30-17 in the second half. Vernon’s iron man might have felt on the football field, the Marauders’ team captain knew exactly where to find his second, if not third, wind. “I wasn’t doing it for myself. I really just wanted to do it for the team. I wanted the team to win, no matter what,” Cole said. “Whatever was best for the team is what I wanted. It was really amazing to be on the field 24-7 most of the time. I valued every moment I was on the field.”
