PREP ROUNDUP: Cougars win Alexandria Holiday Invite

ALEXANDRIA The Greenfield-Central boys basketball team won two straight to seize the Alexandria Holiday Invitational championship on Wednesday.
The Class 4A Cougars opened the holiday tournament with a 60-53 victory over 2A Sheridan in the morning session before knocking off the host 2A Tigers, 59-37, in the championship game.
Greenfield-Central stormed out to a 20-6 lead during the title game and built a 29-20 advantage by halftime before outscoring the Tigers 30-17 in the second half.

Rivalry Intensified: Dragons escape feisty Cougars in HHC opener
GREENFIELD Messages were delivered, loud and clear.
While the rivalry between the Greenfield-Central Cougars and the New Palestine Dragons didn’t need any added emphasis, the fire was stoked regardless on Friday night as both programs held little back during their Hoosier Heritage Conference opener.
The 55th meeting between the Dragons and host Cougars showcased a tug-of-war with both teams tied 27-27 in the series, but New Palestine made it 17 wins in the past 21, prevailing 68-58.
