It was a much-needed victory Friday night for the Jefferson City Jays against the Holt Indians at Fleming Fieldhouse.
After finishing with a 1-2 record in the Joe Machens Great 8 Classic last week, the Jays bounced back with a 73-43 blowout of the Indians on their home floor.
The Fatima Comets aren’t messing around. They’ve won 11 games in a row, and the biggest win during their streak has landed them back in the Joe Machens Great 8 Classic championship game. Fatima made just one field goal in the final eight minutes, but the Comets scored 12 points at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter Thursday night to get past the Ensworth School, Tenn., Tigers for a 59-50 semifinal win at Fleming Fieldhouse.
When the going got tough, the Helias Crusaders turned to their seniors. Kase Winegar and Blake Means combined to score 10 points in the final eight minutes Thursday, helping the Crusaders hold off the Capital City Cavaliers for a 54-39 win in the loser’s bracket semifinals of the Joe Machens Great 8 Classic at Fleming Fieldhouse.
The Jays were off to the races.

Ensworth didn’t take its first lead until less than two minutes remained in the fourth quarter, then the Tigers never let go of it, holding on for a 57-53 victory against the Jays in the first round of the Joe Machens Great 8 Classic at Fleming Fieldhouse.
