Rogers, Ark., never led in regulation. But Skye Davenport made sure the Mounties led when it mattered most. Davenport scored the Mounties final seven points in regulation and five of their 10 points in overtime to lead Rogers to a 62-56 overtime win Thursday against the Capital City Cavaliers in the consolation semifinals of the Joe Machens Great 8 Classicª.
Nate Brandt controlled the Fatima offense early, but the Comets spread the ball around as they pulled ahead. Fatima scored the first 11 points, and 18 of the first 21, in the fourth quarter to build a 58-46 win Thursday night against the Helias Crusaders in the semifinals of the Joe Machens Great 8 Classic at Fleming Fieldhouse.
It had been almost 29 minutes since Sam Lopez scored a point, but the Helias sophomore point guard stepped to the free-throw line with :31.8 on the clock, trying to put the Crusaders back in front. The first attempt nervously spun around the rim twice before falling through the net. The second attempt, to give Helias the lead, he swished it.
The Jefferson City Jays made use of high-percentage shots.
Jefferson City shot 60 percent in the first quarter, 45.5 percent in the second and 60 percent again in the third to help build a 58-48 win Wednesday against the Rogers, Ark., Mounties in the opening round of the Joe Machens Great 8 Classic at Fleming Fieldhouse.
