jim tilmon, how accurate do you think this radar information is that has been released? do you believe because a lot of it is not clear-cut this was information that they were g getting. well, i don t mean to say bad things about people, but i really don t trust any of that. i mean i keep getting all of these crazy stories about what the radar was picking up and what it wasn t picking up. hey, do you have radar contact or not? and i also wonder you know, i ve been critical of air traffic control since this thing started. where were they? why aren t they asking this airplane to squawk i.d. so we can identify them. why aren t they asking what are your intentions? why aren t they creating the conversation? an airline flying over land you would think would raise those types of communications from air traffic controllers.
to allow that? you have to look at the radar range itself. when the plane was first lost it was at the extreme end of the radar system from malaysia. so we are talking about 250 nautical miles and the aircraft was at 35,000 feet to. fly under the radar it will have to fly know the range of the radar and then fly to the height for that range. so as it s approaching, say, pakistan, it s going to have to go lower and lower and lower. and i doubt a plane of 200 tons could get under the radar. jim tilmon, i promise we will get you in. does the united states believe we are in a threat right now because of this? that we are vulnerable? well, they don t when you

separate investigations with the military drawing out and the navy drawing out. i m very concerned about where this investigation is headed at this point. jim tilmon, do you want to digest this latest report that somebody punched a sort of coordinate change into that cockpit controller? well, it would support the idea that it was definitely deliberate, and then it sort of gives you a sequence of activities that follow that deliberate approach giving the feel that somebody really wanted this thing to go wrong. one of the theories now since we are talking about not just this report but the satellite ping that put it well west and then perhaps that northern track into asia and across china into this is in order for that to happen, the plane had to duck radar intentionally along the way. greg, as author of small and short range radar systems, i ve read it three or four times.
