Since her retirement from journalism, longtime Sentinel writer Peggy Townsend has shifted her storytelling skills to the realm of fiction. In her latest novel, "The Beautiful and the Wild," Townsend explores the depths of isolation and the power of secrets, drawing from her personal experiences as a journalist and a seven-week van trip across Alaska. BELLINGHAM, Wash. Neighbors are reacting as the homeless tent camp at Civic Athletic Complex in Bellingham grows.
Bellingham Bay Gymnastics owner Jill Wolfson told KING5 the employees there became increasingly alarmed as dozens of tents and makeshift houses have gone up.
She said that people are just starting to trust and come back and the camp could be the thing that closes them down.
Britany Moncur works across the street from the new camp and said crime was already increasing in the neighborhood, adding that it just doesn’t seem safe anymore.
