Katz/The Virginian-Pilot The demolition of the Farm Fresh in Virginia Beach continues Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Heavy machinery is tearing into the side of the former Farm Fresh grocery store on Laskin Road at the Oceanfront this week. The building will be razed to make room for a new apartment complex. The Breeden Co. plans to build 240 apartments on the 2.26-acre site next to the Laskin Road roundabout. The $66 million project The Pinnacle on 31st Street will open in 2023. The grocery store was built in 1978, according to city records. Farm Fresh closed in 2018 when its parent company, facing stiff competition and lagging sales, sold off or shuttered all of its stores. The building remained boarded up and vacant. In 2019, local investors took over the lease and began looking for a new tenant.
