KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 Family members of 22 ethnic Indian men detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) in 2019 pleaded for mercy and demanded justice for their kin whom they said were assaulted and tortured while in the Jelebu Prison.
Some of the family members held a press conference yesterday, where they narrated events told by their detained family members: how they were allegedly beaten with plastic pipes, sticks, chairs and other objects, as well as had their private parts pepper-sprayed.
KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 7): The Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) on Bentong Prison in Pahang and Taiping Prison in Perak and their staff quarters has been extended by another 14 days until Feb 22, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said the EMCO, originally due to end tomorrow, was extended based on the joint risk assessment undertaken by various agencies in the MCO Technical Committee, which included the Health Ministry (MoH). For Bentong Prison and its staff quarters, so far 2,085 swab tests have been conducted on inmates, staff and close contacts, and cumulatively 767 positive Covid-19 cases have been recorded.
KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 23): The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) implemented at the transit block (Muhasabah Block) at Jelebu Prison, Negeri Sembilan, previously scheduled to end tomorrow (Jan 24), has been extended until Feb 7.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the EMCO in Jelebu Prison and staff quarters, Negeri Sembilan will end tomorrow as scheduled.
“The Ministry of Health (MoH) has confirmed that 49 active cases are still being treated at the Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-risk Treatment Centre (PKRC), and 69 people (close contacts) under the home surveillance order (HSO) are still housed at the transit block (Muhasabah Block),” he said in a statement on the development of the MCO today.
