On the side of a Bell County road, Deputy Shawn Hearn became a hero for his life-saving measures on an infant girl.
The 63-year-old deputy â hailed for his efforts by officials at the Bell County Sheriffâs Department â took action Monday when a 911 call came in at about 5:30 p.m. from the Heidenheimer area.
âWe received a 911 call from a foster mother stating that her 14-day-old baby had turned blue and became unresponsive while they were traveling in a vehicle,â Lt. Bob Reinhard said in a news release. âThe foster mother had pulled her vehicle over, calling 911, and luckily, Deputy Hearn was close to the area and was able to respond very quickly.â
BELTON â For Maj. Shane Sowell, the new jail administrator for Bell County, the move to the area is both about family and about a new challenge.
Sowell, who is coming from Laredo, will take over the management of the countyâs two jails and coordinate the officers who handle local courts and inmates.
Before joining the Bell County Sheriffâs Department, which oversees the jail, Sowell worked all around Texas. He has served as a jail administrator in Lamb County as well as an inspector for the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, covering 60 counties and 64 facilities.
Jeff Buuck, chief deputy of the department, said Sowell caught the departmentâs attention early on due to his experience in the field.
