NEW DELHI: The CBI on Tuesday carried out searches at five locations in poll-bound West Bengal in connection with the illegal coal mining case involving alleged kingpin Anup Manjhi, officials said.
The searches are being conducted at five locations of Manjhi s alleged associate Amit Agrawal, a businessman, in Durgapur, Asansol and Bankura, they said.
Eight phase polling for assembly elections in West Bengal is scheduled to begin on March 27.

New Delhi [India], March 16 (ANI): A Delhi Court on Tuesday sent Vikas Mishra, brother of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Vinay Mishra, to six days Enforcement Directorate remand in connection with coal mining scam.
Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Judge Ajay Gulati said that custodial interrogation of the accused Vikas Mishra is necessary to unearth the conspiracy, to trace the proceeds of crime and to confront the accused with other witnesses, documents, evidence . In these circumstances, accused Vikas Mishra is remanded to six days police custody from today. The ED shall get the medical examination of the accused conducted every 24 hours during the period he remains in their custody. Kolkata, March 15 : The family members of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee s sister-in-law Menaka Gambhir appeared before the CBI on Monday to record their statements in the multi-crore coal pilferage scam being investigated by the central probe agency.
Gambhir s father-in-law Pawan Arora and her husband Ankush Arora deposed before the CBI.
Meanwhile, the probe agency has postponed the date for the questioning of Trinamool Congrerss leader and West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee to March 23. Earlier, the agency had summoned the Trinamool leader in connection with the ICore chit fund scam for questioning on March 15 at its Kolkata office.

Kolkata: Moving ahead with its probe into the illegal coal smuggling case and the ICore chit fund case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee s sister-in-law Menka Gambhir s father-in-law and husband for questioning.
The CBI also summoned Trinamool Congress leader and Education Minister Partha Chatterjee in connection with the ICore chit fund scam on March 15.
A source related to the probe told IANS: The CBI has summoned Menka Gambhir s father-in-law Pawan Arora and husband Ankush Arora for questioning on March 15 at its office here.
