Plenty of people took to the Lake of the Ozarks to commemorate the unofficial end of summer, making the 2023 season the most hectic and busiest for local business owners.

Jamestown Lions hear reports, two recognized

Submitted photo At the May 12 Lions meeting, Kathy Boe opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and Glen Nagel gave the table prayer. The meeting included reports on volunteers for Meals on Wheels, Stutsman County Fairgrounds clean up, sweet corn sales and the city forester’s fruit tree plot. In other business, Past District Governors Boe and Dwaine Heinrich presented the Certificate of Membership to new member Craig Thierer. Also receiving recognition was longtime member Clayton Wolff, awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship award for his service to Lions and to the community. Family members attending the ceremony were Wolff’s daughter, Wendy Kaseman, grandson, Lucas Dockter, and a great-granddaughter, Maddie.

Lions members serve people in Jamestown area

Kulm, Gackle, Jamestown Lions members hold activities to benefit communities. 7:00 am, Dec. 19, 2020 × Lions district governor NE On behalf of all the Lions clubs in your region, we wish a Merry Christmas to the readers of the Jamestown Sun. Did you know that our purpose is to serve others in our communities? Our motto is Where there is a need, there is a Lion. For example, the Jamestown Lions completed an essential blood drive, delivered Meals on Wheels and donated over $2,900 to local charities. The Kulm Lions are preparing Christmas bags for the children in their town and, donating over $1,000 to the food pantry. Ellendale Lions will soon be delivering Christmas wreaths and greenery to raise funds to help charitable groups. Wing Lions are preparing gift bags for Santa Claus Day for local children. Gackle Lions delivered food packages to the elderly and The Gackle Care Center.

Sortland joins staff of Bremer Bank

He brings 29 years of banking experience to his new position. 4:48 pm, Dec. 16, 2020 × Kevin Sortland Bremer Bank has announced that Kevin Sortland has joined its team as a senior ag banker. In this role, Sortland will work directly with farmers and business owners to provide loans, lines of credit and premier banking services. He brings with him 29 years of banking experience. Sortland most recently held the position of senior ag relationship manager in the Jamestown market. He was also a licensed agent selling multi-peril and crop insurance. Sortland is active in the Jamestown community, currently serving as Finance Committee chairman at Victory Lutheran Church and is a member of the Jamestown Lions Club. Sortland previously served as president for the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce, Jamestown Tourism and the Jamestown United Way.
