Covid-19 (Feb 21): New cases inch above 3,000 again, big spike in Perak Published Modified21 Feb 2021, 11:15 am A - COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 3,297 new Covid-19 cases, breaching the 3,000-mark for the first time in eight days. The uptick was fuelled by a significant spike in Perak which recorded 1,215 new cases. This was the first time Perak recorded four-digit new cases in a day during the third wave of the pandemic. The previous record was 245 new cases on Jan 21. Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a statement, said the spike was due to the Jalan Changkat Jong cluster which comprised 86.1 percent of the new cases in Perak today.

Health Ministry: 11 new clusters for 341 total, five end

The Health director-general said five clusters had also been declared ended on Saturday (Jan 23). The five clusters are the Jalan Rusa, Tower, Cassia Diamond, Bukit Punai and Estate Maju Clusters. Currently the total number of active clusters nationwide is 341, with 84 of them recording more positive cases today, he said in a statement on Saturday. He said of the 11 new clusters, eight were connected to workplaces while the four others were community, religious and detention centre clusters. In Johor, the Jalan Canggih, Persiaran Tanjung and Jalan Timah Dua clusters were identified while in Sabah, the Kilang Setapak and Kampung Bombalai Clusters were identified.
