The state administration is now planning to roll out this facility in 16 more towns which include Cuttack, Rourkela, and Berhampur, and is expected to benefit 40 lakh people. All urban areas of the state are set to be provided with the ‘drink from tap’ water facility by March 2022, making it the first state in India to do so.

Image Source: IANS News New Delhi, Feb 17 : The Centre s Jal Jeevan Mission-Urban (JJM-U) is designed to provide universal coverage of water supply to all households in all cities in the country, an official said on Wednesday. JJM-U will lead to competition among cities to become more water secure and will create more awareness and sensitivity towards water conservation, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Durga Shanker Mishra said. While launching the pilot programme of the Pey Jal Survekshan, he said that based on the learnings from it, the programme will be extended to all the AMRUT cities.
