Chicken and waffles go beyond brunch, get creative

Chicken and waffles go beyond brunch, get creative Updated 8:00 AM; Facebook Share GRAND RAPIDS, MI - When the Ashville, N.C.-based Southern scratch kitchen Tupelo Honey opened its first Michigan location in September of 2020, executive chef Eric Gabrynowicz said brunch was a huge focus. “We thrive on eggs, mimosas and Bloody Marys, and having a good time,” he said. “It’s what we live for on the weekends.” But he didn’t mention the trendy, hipster brunch favorite of chicken and waffles as being on the menu. In fact, since opening in 2000 and expanding its Southern cuisine menu to 16 locations throughout the country, including Grand Rapids, chicken and waffles have never been on the menu at Tupelo Honey.

Local Eats: Ann Arbor s Jagged Fork features breakfast and boozy brunches

Local Eats: Ann Arbor’s Jagged Fork features breakfast and boozy brunches Updated Apr 03, 2021; Facebook Share ANN ARBOR - Between construction and pandemic closures you might have missed Ann Arbor’s newest downtown spot for breakfast and boozy brunches. Ann Arbor’s Jagged Fork opened last January and offers brunch standards with special twists, like a house-made sriracha maple syrup, locally-sourced corn tortillas and a family recipe for their huevos rancheros sauce and hand-battered cajun fried chicken and waffles. Owner Mike Kemsley said the pandemic cleared out the DTE Energy offices upstairs that helped the business get off the ground when it opened, but with the return of dine-in service, weekends are even busier than expected. On Saturdays, there’s a line out the door for first-come, first-serve seating.
