address making a new plea yet again for gun action. telling congress in the wake of more mass shootings, enough is enough. more kids and on duty cops killed by guns. more kids than soldiers killed by guns. for god s sake, how much more carnage are we willing to accept? how many more innocent american lives must be taken before we say enough? enough. this time we have to take the time to do something. this time, it is time for the senate to do something. among the president s demands to congress, either ban assault weapons or raise the minimum purchase age to 21 years old. fact is, many of these proposals have no realistic chance of passage. there is little to no gop support for them. that s exactly right. even after what happened this week, and last. the president s speech comes as democrats on a house committee did pass a string of proposals and got in a fiery debate with a republican colleague, small bipartisan group of senators is still working behind the scenes, but
showed up to navarro s home and served him with a subpoena specifically asking him to provide to a grand jury documents related to his refusal to comply with the house select committee. including any communications that he had had with former president trump or his lawyers. peter navarro has been public about his efforts to undermine the outcome of the 20 20 election. he was subpoenaed by the committee last february and refused to comply with that, citing executive privilege. the committee, though, at the time, said look, there s a lot of things we want to talk to you about that you ve spoken about publicly. you have published in your book, and that would not be covered by executive privilege. come in and answer our questions. he refused to do that. he refused to provide any documents. the house voted to refer him to the justice department for criminal contempt. he s been indicted by a grand jury. what happens next in the legal process? he s expected to appear in court la
lay them out for us. that s right. two counts. one each for not appearing for his deposition and failing to a second count for failing to turn over documents that the january 6th committee demanded he turn over. but one of the interesting things that happened today, not only obviously was this was he indicted by the grand jury, but this was initially prosecutors initially asked for this to be sealed, because they felt that it was a risk of either flight or for him to tamper with other witnesses. we learned just a while ago that what happened today was he was actually arrested by the fbi, and most cases like this, the fbi allows people to self-surrender, to show up at the courthouse and surrender. in this case, peter navarro was arrested. he lives just a couple blocks away from fbi head quarters. when i talked to him earlier this week, he was really angry that when they served him his subpoena from the u.s. attorney last week, that they knocked on his door. he said they
