The High Court came down heavily on the State government for its inaction, saying it has 'no spine or guts' to take strict action against traffic violators.
A Gujarat court on Friday sent Tathya Patel, the driver who allegedly crushed nine people to death by his speeding luxury car on the ISKCON Bridge in Ahmedabad, to judicial remand till Sunday.
The incident, which is being considered as one of the deadliest accidents in Ahmedabad, happened when a speeding car from Rajpath Club rammed into the crowd on the bridge. The impact was so severe that it threw people about 25 to 30 feet away.
People aware of the matter said the luxury Jaguar car was estimated to be speeding at 120 km per hour when it hit those at the site from behind | Latest News India
"Nine persons were killed and 10 to 11 people were injured in the accident. It does not appear to be a case of drunk driving. But our primary investigation has revealed the speed of the Jaguar car was extremely high. Since (car driver) Tathya Patel is under treatment, we will arrest him once doctors give a go-ahead," Desai said at the Sola Civil Hospital.
