Funeral to praise Philip s courage and support for queen | News, Sports, Jobs

International News Apr 17, 2021 WINDSOR, England (AP) Prince Philip will be remembered as a man of “courage, fortitude and faith” on Saturday, at a funeral that salutes both his service in the Royal Navy and his support for Queen Elizabeth II over three quarters of a century. Philip, who died April 9 at the age of 99 after 73 years of marriage, will be laid to rest in the Royal Vault at Windsor Castle after a funeral service steeped in military and royal tradition but also pared down and infused with his own personality. Coronavirus restrictions mean that instead of the 800 mourners included in the longstanding plans for his funeral, there will be only 30 inside the castle’s St. George’s Chapel, including the widowed queen, her four children and her eight grandchildren.

Prince Philip laid to rest at St George s Chapel

April 18, 2021 / 8:19 AM / CBS NEWS Remembering Prince Philip A somber and focused funeral service was held Saturday for Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh a service that Philip himself had chosen, despite the COVID-19 protocols that meant only 30 people could attend. Queen Elizabeth sat alone at the service due to the virus. Many of the funeral s personal touches were planned by Philip, including the music sung by a choir of just four people. He also designed the Land Rover that brought his coffin to St. George s Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle.  People across Britain held a moment of silence before the funeral, and the service reflected Philip s dedication to military service. His casket was draped with his military cap and sword, and military bands played tribute to him.
