The funeral of The Duke of Edinburgh will take place today, Saturday, April 17, at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, at 3pm.
The service will be preceded by a ceremonial procession inside the grounds of Windsor Castle.
The Queen and the Royal Family are ‘grateful for all the messages of condolence from around the world’ and have been ‘touched to see and hear so many people sharing fond memories of The Duke of Edinburgh.’
Although plans for the funeral have been modified to take into account public health guidelines, the ceremonial aspects of the day and the service itself are in line with The Duke’s wishes and will reflect his personal and military affiliations.
The first mourners have arrived at Windsor Castle today where the Queen is preparing to say her final farewell to her strength and stay Prince Philip as his coffin was moved ahead of the procession.

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II who died last week at age 99, will be laid to rest on Saturday after a funeral service at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. His send-off will be highly unusual in part because coronavirus restrictions meant the ceremony had to be scaled back, but also because it comes just after a very public airing of a family rift.
Pandemic rules in Britain have meant that the funeral will be pared down, with adjustments that include a limit of 30 guests at the church service. The queen and select family members will all be wearing masks and seated six feet apart.
