Over six episodes, Tobias Lindholm’s Danish crime drama which concluded its stateside run on HBO earlier this week refers only to “the accused.” We never see him interrogated by Jens Moller (Soren Malling), the Copenhagen homicide lead who serves as the show’s protagonist, or any of his deputies. There are many ways to tell true-crime stories on TV. They might include narration that introduces the subject and provides a commentary. There could be interviews with survivors of the crime, or witnesses to it, observations from police and lawyers who became involved in the case, contributions from family members and friends.
The production might use photos, news and archival footage or home movies. There could be flashback sequences and dramatised recreations of events.
