and first and foremost, by the president. number two, let s just go through the various things that could or could not be done. just specifically about hacking, right? first is attribution. where you call the russians out to say, we know you did this. you are at guilt here. everybody else has done that. the president s never done that. second, if a machine is hacked, we can recount the vote with paper. not done that. third, controlling their propaganda. what should rt be allowed to do? what should sputnik be allowed to do in our elections? there s pending legislation. senator warner and klobuchar has put that legislation out there and the president hasn t supported it. and fourth, the one thing we re talking about now is deterrence. if you do this, we will, for instance, publish the information we know about your holdings around the world, vladimir putin.
the white house about still-pending clearances on white house staff and whether there s any prerogative permission. they sent a letter asking for some of the information. i wonder if white house is going to plans to comply with those requests. and if i know you ve been hesitant to relay some of that information, even in aggregate i haven t been hesitant, i ve been very clear that we don t discuss security clearances and that s not changing today, it didn t change yesterday, it s not going to change tomorrow comply with the requests i didn t say that. i said i m not going to discuss security clearances with members of the press. and that hasn t been different at any point during this administration. and we have no intention of changing it right now. well, are you going to comply with those i ll let you know when we have a chance to review that and make a decision. you asked about a statement today saying the president supports the renewal credit but also supporti
have been talking about, which is hope hicks over on capitol hill. there s a number of topics that are going to come up most likely at the white house briefing, including that really interesting testimony today that had democrats furious, from national security adviser, mike rogers. excuse me for looking over my shoulder, because we do expect sarah sanders to come out at any moment. you also have questions now about continued questions over security clearance in the white house, the house oversight committee asking to see some information related to that. you have major foreign policy news. the u.n. linking north korea to syria s chemical weapons attacks. so i do imagine it will be a wide-ranging discussion here at the white house today. no doubt about that. also, if you re going to talk about a wide range of questions. john kelly s role in the white house has got to be an open question and whether or not he still maintains the confidence of the president. but i m getting a little
different crimes. and sometimes what you the proposition you started with turns out to be completely wrong. if you were sitting down with hope hicks today, what would you bsk asking her? as a prosecutor? yeah. so there are two specific areas that everybody knows that she might have information about. one is the statement that was crafted by the president, apparently, himself, on air force one, on the way back from europe last july, when they were trying to figure out what they could say about the meeting that donald trump jr. and paul manafort and others had at trump tower with some russians. so that s one episode in which she apparently was very heavily involved. and where she said, according to mark corallo, who was a spokesman for the president s legal team, said the e-mails, the don junior e-mails will never get out, and that left corallo with the impression that she was trying to obstruct justice. we should say that hope hicks lawyers deny that. right. so as i und
sometimes that information comes as it did in the manafort and gates case from e-mails, they got search warrants from manafort and gates e-mails, sometimes it comes from other witnesses, and sometimes it comes from the insiders themselves. i wouldn t necessarily say they re trying to flip manafort. they ve decided based on the evidence they ve seen that manafort is guilty and they can prove it without a reasonable doubt. but they keep adding indictments, and i m sorry to interrupt, but yesterday we had chuck rosenberg on, who s a man who doesn t have a tendency to overstate things, as you know, and he said, at the end of the day, either sooner or later, depending on if he ends up pleading guilty or if they end up convicting him after a lengthy trial, paul manafort will be a convicted felon. that s going to happen. by the way, sarah sanders is talking right now. we ll go to her when she starts taking questions. don t leave this channel. so paul manafort is someone who will be a convi
