As the ongoing farmers protest continued for the 20th day on Tuesday, Union Agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that the government is ready discuss the three farm laws clause by clause by if the protesting farmers respond to amendments proposed by the government. We have said that we are ready for the talks. The government will definitely do it if their (farmer unions ) proposal comes.We want the discussions to be held clause by clause. They will give their opinion on our proposal, we will definitely hold further talks, he said.

New Delhi: Farmers who were on a day-long hunger strike at the Singhu border as part of their protest against Centre s farm laws broke their fast on Monday evening and said they are not Aatankwadi (terrorists) but Hakwadi (fighting for rights). It was a day-long hunger strike against the allegation made by the central government that we are terrorists. Through this fast we want to say that we are not Aatankwadi but Hakwadi, said Punjab Kisan Union member Kuldeep Singh.

AIKCC national secretary Gunvant Patil told ET after the meeting that the government should not let farmers of the country suffer due to small groups of farmers from Punjab. “If farmers from states like Punjab don’t want reforms, they should be allowed to continue with the mandi system and states in favour of reforms should be encouraged to embrace the new laws,” he said.
Tomar has been meeting a large number of farmer groups, who have expressed unconditional support to the farm laws aimed at deregulating the sale of crops and doubling the income of farmers. A large number of farmers from Haryana and Uttarakhand had met Tomar and threatened to launch an agitation if the government rolls back the laws.
