TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State sprinter Amir Willis was named the ACC Men's Co-Track Performer of the Week the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. Willis shared the award with Zach Jaeger from Georgia Tech. This is the first time Willis has earned the award in his career. Braman quote Willis started his outdoor season off with a bang with an impressive showing at the Hurricane Invitational in Miami, Fla. Willis ran a personal best in the 100m dash with a time of 10.25 which is the fastest time in the ACC and the seventh-fastest time in the NCAA. Willis is coming off a strong indoor season where he earned first team All-ACC honors in the 200m dash and second team All-ACC honors in the 60m dash. Willis and the Noles will be in action this week at the FSU Relays at the Mike Long Track in Tallahassee. AUBURN, Ala. - The Florida State track and field team only had five participants on day one of the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., but all five Noles placed inside the top three in their respective events. The Noles were led by Kelechi Nwanaga who took home the individual title in the javelin. Nwanaga won the event with a throw of 52.84m, just edging teammate Sara Zabarino who finished second with a throw of 52.34m. Megan Cook had a solid showing in the hammer throw as she took third with a personal best throw of 56.34m. Cook's throw is the fifth-farthest throw in FSU history. In the men's long jump, Jeremiah Davis took second with a leap of 7.64m. Teammate Jacore Irving was right behind him with a jump of 7.09m. At the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, Adriaan Wildschutt finished the 3000m run with a time of 8:09.24 while Lauren Ryan clocked in at 9:13.93. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State track and field team wrapped up its first weekend of outdoor competition on Saturday afternoon at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala. and the Hurricane Invitational in Miami, Fla.
"The goal for a season-opening meet is always to compete well and get a qualifying mark for regionals if possible. We competed well across the board this weekend, and that sets us up well for FSU Relays next week," Head Coach Bob Braman said.
In Miami, Sean Watkins Jr. led the way for the men's sprinters as he took home the top spot in the 400m dash with a time of 47.28.
Alex Collier and Amir Willis each ran personal bests in their respective events. Collier finished third in the 200m dash with a solid time of 20.95. Willis had a good showing in the 100m dash as he finished third, clocking in at 10.25.
