Reporter the bus driver was taking students to visit a College Campus in northern california. The drivers of the bus and fedex truck died along with three chaperones and five of the students. Many others escaped by kicking out windows. I see black. Theres fire at the front of the bus. Its crushed in the front. Reporter the ones who made it out could only watch as others died inside the burning wreckage including this couple, chaperones michael and madison, engaged last december in paris. The victims with minor injuries or lucksy enough not to get lucky enough not to get hurt at all, spent the night at this red cross shelter. A statement Humboldt State University Says the students were all seniors who are on their way to the University Spring preview day which is recruiting event for prospective freshmen. 46 people on board there were 42 students. 3 chaperone and 1 driver. Today her mother told kpix 5s Ann Notarangelo her daughters death could have been prevented. Reporter brittney silvas among seems strong but she is clearly distraught today. She is convinced that her daughter would be alive if she hadnt been listening to music with her headphones on. I dont know how much more stronger i can be, though. I know gods sure testing me. Reporter a mothers anguish just yards away from where her daughter was killed wishing the tragedy wasnt true, wishing her daughter had taken her advice, wishing she could just have one more moment together. Reporter yesterday, brittney silvas mother says she was walking on these train tracks texting with her earphones in.
