The Ministry had mandated the fitment of FASTag in M&N categories of motor vehicles with effect from 1 January 2021. FASTag mandatory from tomorrow midnight or get ready to pay twice the fee, says Nitin Gadkari 
New Delhi: Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said the deadline for the implementation of FASTag would not be extended further, and the vehicle owners should immediately adopt the e-payment facility.
The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) on Sunday clarified that this has been done to further promote fee payment through digital mode, reduce waiting time and fuel consumption, and provide for a seamless passage through the fee plazas.

FASTag, the electronic toll collection, will become mandatory for every vehicle in the country from February 15 onwards. In a respite to highway commuters, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has withdrawn the requirement of maintaining a minimum amount in the FASTag wallet to ensure seamless movement at electronic toll plaza.
