As the Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay passes through Prince George on March 19, one local Mountie will be a proud medal-bearer.
Const. Julie Champagne, who has been part of the Prince George RCMP Detachment for the last 6 ½ years, was chosen to be one of the medal-bearers for the relay. This honour was granted following a letter she submitted to relay organizers through an online public contest.
The letter was an emotional and inspiring re-count of her life story and willingness to always see the positive side of life. Champagne, who had to cope with the loss of her mother to breast cancer and the loss of her brother to suicide when she was in her early teens, is a strong advocate for seeing positive outcomes during life’s darker times.
