Cornwall Borough Council agrees to loan for fire truck replacement

Cornwall Borough Council agreed to help the Community Fire Company of Cornwall Borough to purchase a used $500,000 aerial truck. The 2012 Pierce aerial truck will replace the fire company s 1997 E-One (Emergency One) aerial ladder truck. Tobyhanna Township Volunteer Fire Company is purchasing a new truck and selling its vehicle - with 11,000 miles on it. Council President John Karinch said the council s finance committee learned that parts were no longer available to make repairs to the ladder and the pump on the E-One truck, according to a repair facility that specializes in fire equipment. He said the fire company has $95,000 to use for a down payment on the used Pierce truck and is willing to apply for a $200,000 loan from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, leaving a balance due of $205,000.
