Cornwall Borough Council agreed to help the Community Fire Company of Cornwall Borough to purchase a used $500,000 aerial truck.
The 2012 Pierce aerial truck will replace the fire company's 1997 E-One (Emergency One) aerial ladder truck. Tobyhanna Township Volunteer Fire Company is purchasing a new truck and selling its vehicle - with 11,000 miles on it.
Council President John Karinch said the council's finance committee learned that parts were no longer available to make repairs to the ladder and the pump on the E-One truck, according to a repair facility that specializes in fire equipment. He said the fire company has $95,000 to use for a down payment on the used Pierce truck and is willing to apply for a $200,000 loan from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, leaving a balance due of $205,000.
