BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The Hewitt-Trussville Lady Huskies demolished Theodore 73-39 in the 7A semifinals Tuesday afternoon at UABâs Bartow Arena to advance to the state championship game.
This is Hewittâs second trip to the title game in three years. The Huskies lost to Hoover in 2019.
Hewittâs Aniya Payne led the team in scoring with 25 points. Hewitt will face No. 1 Hoover Wednesday for a chance to bring home the blue map. This will be the second matchup between these two teams this season. Earlier this year, Hoover beat Hewitt on a buzzer beater.
Six states have hit the diamond and started the 2021 high school softball season. And we have already seen some shakeups in the first regular season MaxPreps Top 25 softball rankings.
Fifth-ranked Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville, Ala.) is off to a hot start at 8-0. Junior Sarah Hindman tossed a complete-game, four-hitter in a 5-1 win over No. 24 ranked Bob Jones this past Thursday.
Lakewood Ranch (Bradenton, Fla.) continues to roll in Florida. Colgate commit Jillian Herbst has three home runs and is one of several Mustangs powering their 6-0 start.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The Hoover Lady Bucs defeated Auburn 55-36 Tuesday morning at UAB’s Bartow Arena in the 7A girls semifinal to advance to the state championship game. Hoover’s Reniya Kelly led the team in scoring with 16 points, Aniya Hubbard followed with 12 and 11 rebounds.
This is Hoover’s third straight trip to the Championship game. The Bucs lost to Spain Park last year. “This is a business trip for us. We’ve been saying since the beginning of the season, it’s a reclamation tour and we’re trying to reclaim what’s ours so until we get that, you probably won’t see too many smiles,” said Hoover basketball coach Krystle Johnson.

Last week, Hewitt-Trussville High School wide receiver Omari Kelly dropped his top eight schools, which included the University of Alabama. The others were LSU, Oklahoma, Florida, Virginia, Georgia, Auburn and South Carolina.
Over the weekend at the Southern Xpress Border Wars 7on7 tournament in Birmingham, Bama Central caught up with the 2022 prospect to discuss his recruitment. They have a winning history, Kelly said of what he likes about the Crimson Tide. Alabama is just a winning program. And I have a great relationship with all their coaches.

With the 2021 recruiting cycle squared away, the Florida Gators have set their sights on many prospects for the 2022 recruiting season. Many have already begun to release their top-teams list, and some have even committed, two of which have pledged to the Gators themselves.
