the unified district is in the hotseat after a grand jury found that its outdated emergency equipment and policies led to the destruction of that school last summer. george, this is a damaging report by the grand jury. what exactly does it say the school district did wrong? reporter: the grand jury made it clear in the report that sprinklers and automatic fire alarms should be installed in all new and remodeled san jose unified schools and says the building that burned down here at trace elementary school did not have them. it was quite devastating for them to see their classrooms burning up in flames. reporter: cheryl has two chirp that go to the school. she supports a grand jury recommendation urging the san jose unified school district to install sprinklers and fire alarms when they build a new school or remodel an existing one. i don t think there should be any question about it whatsoever. it needs to be mandatory and a qualification standard set that all schools
