Wrestling Looking Forward to Season | Milford LIVE! - Local Delaware News, Kent and Sussex Counties

A split second, that’s all it was between Milford winning the D-I State title and losing it. In wrestling that split second can seem like an eternity. Unfortunately for Milford last season, it was on the wrong end of that split second and would eventually fall to Smyrna, having to settle for second place. “That is just one of those moments where the call can go either way and it just didn’t go ours. It was so close, but I had no problem with the call,” Milford coach Don Parsley said. Nothing is given in high school sports, so to expect Milford to enter the State finals or tournament for that matter, is nothing to be taken for granted. In today’s climate what most coaches are hoping for across all winter sports is to just be able to compete. While Milford sets a high bar for itself when it comes to wrestling, this year may be a little bit different. There will be no special tournaments, no invitationals, just 12 dual meets against mainly Henlopen Conference competition. “

Division of Public Health says game on

After some ambiguity as to whether winter sports competitions may begin Monday, Jan. 11, a public health official said it s game on. Speaking during a Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association board of directors meeting Jan. 7, Jamie Mack, chief of health systems protection for the Delaware Division of Public Health, said a draft plan allowing competition play is expected to be finalized by Jan. 8. “Right now, competition would be able to resume,” he said. Earlier in the week, however, the message was unclear when Gov. John Carney would not say whether he would lift a ban on sports competition that he set in December to run until Jan. 11.

15th Run With Santa 5K attracts 107 to Cape Henlopen State Park

Tim Bamforth December 18, 2020 The Seashore Striders hosted the 15th Run With Santa 5K at Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes Dec. 12 and accomplished the four goals I set for the event. We attracted more than 100 participants again during a worldwide pandemic and hosted another safe event. The run raised money for the local Toys for Tots campaign; we team up with Apple Electric each year. We raised money for a local family in need that just suffered a loss in a local fire at their home. Lastly, we collected canned foods for the local Needy Family Fund.   “So much good came out of this event today, and it is great that we can help so many people in the community with these events the Seashore Striders host,” said longtime runner Richard Tikiob.
