Police and CQC investigation launched into major Covid outbreak at Devon care home
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a Covid-19 outbreak

A police and health inspectors investigation has been launched at a Devon care home which is currently in the midst of a major Covid-19 outbreak, in which one resident has died.
One death has been confirmed, and it is believed five residents in total have been admitted to hospital.
Residents and staff had already received their first vaccination, and were reportedly due their second vaccination this weekend.
The care home has declined to confirm numbers and has not provided a further update on the current situation, including the reasons why an investigation has been launched by police alongside health and social care regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

An extensive Covid-19 outbreak has been confirmed at an East Devon care home where residents and staff had already received their first vaccination.
It is alleged there were as many as 33 positive coronavirus cases in the space of three days recorded at Holmesley Care Home in Fortescue Road, Sidmouth.
Five residents are thought to have been admitted to hospital, and one of those sadly passed away yesterday.
The care home, which was reported to have had 42 residents living there in September 2020, has not confirmed how many Covid cases there have been, but has said one resident has died.

MEMBERS of staff at two companies in west Wiltshire have tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus, forcing one business to start the Christmas holidays early. At egg co-operative Stonegate Farmers in Lacock, the company confirmed that seven of its 160-plus employees at its factory in Corsham Road have tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus and eight are having to self-isolate. In a statement, Public Health England South West and Wiltshire Council said: “We are aware of seven confirmed cases of Covid-19 in staff working at Stonegate Farmers in Lacock. All staff members are currently well. “Eight staff members have been identified as close contacts of the positive cases and have already been contacted and told to self-isolate.
