Holmesley Care Home banned from taking new residents

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited the Holmesley Care Home in Sidmouth, Devon in February, days before an outbreak of Covid-19 which led to 11 deaths. Two staff members were arrested in March on suspicion of wilful neglect in connection with the outbreak. The CQC downgraded the home from good to inadequate on safety and leadership. The care home said the safety and wellbeing of residents was its top priority and they have or are in the process of rectifying concerns .

A total of 11 deaths have been reported at Holmesley Care Home in Sidmouth, Devon, since 25 February, which are all believed to be related to the outbreak. A woman, 57, from Sidmouth, and a man, 30, from Exeter, who were arrested on suspicion of wilful neglect in March remain on police bail. Both of the people under investigation are staff members at the home. No other arrests are planned as a result of the inquiry, officers said. In March, police confirmed the investigation was focusing on infection control .

Police probe two more deaths at Devon care home

Share A 57-year-old woman from Sidmouth and a 30-year-old man from Exeter were previously arrested on suspicion of wilful neglect under the Criminal Justice and Courts Act 2015. The force said the pair remain on police bail pending further enquiries. A spokeswoman said: No other arrests are currently planned by police in relation to the ongoing enquiry. Devon and Cornwall Police, which is investigating, has said specialist officers were supporting the families of the residents  The investigation is currently being led by Devon and Cornwall Police in partnership with a multi-agency safeguarding response in order to maintain safeguarding of those residents in the home.
