CLEMSON, S.C. Clemson junior Cristina Mayorova, currently ranked the No. 77 singles player in the nation, is set to compete at ITA All-Americans in Cary, N.C. beginning on Monday, Oct. 3. Mayorova will be looking to. Last season, Mayorova played mostly from the No. 1 singles position, going 2-2 against nationally ranked opponents and earning a ranking as high as No. 99.
CLEMSON, S.C. Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain have qualified as one of the 32 doubles pairs to compete for the National Doubles Championship in Champaign, Illinois from May 23-28. The duo is the first from Clemson to be selected for nationals since Marie-Alexandre Leduc and Fernanda Navarro in 2019. Buyckx and DeSpain were brilliant for the Tigers all season, boasting a 13-7 record, including a 10-4 mark in dual matches and a 6-3 record in ACC play. In the five times they battled other nationally ranked pairs, they went 3-2. Most notably, they defeated the No. 11 ranked pair in Emma Navarro and Hibah Shaikh 6-1 late in the season. CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team (10-11, 3-10 ACC) closed out its regular season on Easter Sunday afternoon at Duckworth Family Tennis Facility with a X-X victory over Virginia Tech (6-16, 2-11 ACC). The Tigers won the doubles point for the first time in eight matches and carried the momentum through the remainder of the match. Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain continued their stellar performance in doubles, improving to 10-4 on the season with a 6-2 win on Court 1. Knotted at one match apiece, Jenna Thompson and Dani Medvedeva battled to clinch the doubles point on Court 3 in thrilling 7-5 fashion. The Tigers brought a strong energy into singles play, as Buyckx made quick work on Court 6 to win in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1. Medvedeva followed suit, clinching her match 6-2, 6-1 moments later. DURHAM, N.C. – Jenna Thompson picked up a ranked win as the No. 57 Clemson women’s tennis team (10-11, 2-9 ACC) fell at the hands of No. 10 Duke (15-3, 10-2 ACC) by a final score of 6-1 on Sunday afternoon. The match marked the Tigers last road match of the regular season. The Blue Devils came out firing and quickly secured the doubles point with two 6-3 wins. Duke’s momentum carried through to singles where it took a commanding 3-0 lead. Thompson took care of business over the No. 123 singles player on Court 3, winning in straight sets. The victory gave her a 2-1 record over ranked opponents this year, but it wasn’t enough for Clemson. Duke won the remaining matches to secure the victory. Up next, the Tigers return to Duckworth Family Tennis Facility to close out their regular season with three matches. On Friday, they take on Virginia at 3 p.m. and on Sunday they’ll play a doubleheader, beginning at noon against Virginia Tech and concluding against S.C. State at 4 p.m.

Ali DeSpain fought back from a first set defeat to clinch the match for the Tigers on Court 4 with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory. DeSpain and Samantha Buyckx won their doubles match to advance to 8-3 as a pair, James Madison quickly put pressure on the Tigers by securing the doubles point. Buyckx continued her scorching season by leveling the score at one apiece with a convincing 6-0, 6-3 win on Court 5. She improved to 12-2 in the spring and 6-0 from Court 5. Cristina Mayorova gave the Tigers the lead with a 6-1, 6-2 on Court 1, her second win in as many days. Jenna Thompson put Clemson up 3-1 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory.
