the courthouse. three big decisions just came down from the judge, what are they and how do they affect the trial? these are major decisions. the judge in this trial ruled that he was going to deny a motion from chauvin s attorney to delay the trial. the defense complained about the pretrial publicity and asked the judge to for this relief bill. they say it will just not be able to be avoided. and two he says he doesn t believe anywhere in the state of minnesota that the tension of this has not reached. the impact has been too wide spread. this involves an arrest, a prior arrest of george floyd. a year before he died. that involves evidence to be admitted in that. the judge did partially rule with the defense to admit some evidence and some democrat. he says the fact pattern where he is approached in a similar matter, accused of ingesting drugs. he says some of that is. that is the day he died and that is what is leading up to the trooifl they are trying to get to get it de

here in new york and we begin this morning with the shootings in atlanta. a terrifying escalation of the anti-asian violence seen throughout the country and a reminder of the threat of violence women live with daily. robert aaron long charged with murder after he confessed to killing eight people, six asian women. authorities say long a 21-year-old white man told detectives he would go to massage parlours in the past, he blamed his sexual addiction. the cherokee county sheriff suggested long was, quote, attempting to take out that temptation. other officials and community leaders saying that narrative misses the mark. in this particular case where the victims were asian women we see the intersections of the racism, xenophobia and gender-based violence. you know, we ve also seen historically where news outlets and the police frame the story around the perpetrator and now we re hearing about the suspect in custody and we are hearing stories about how he was religious, he su

potentially another covid search. as more states open up, as air travel numbers open up and hit records since the start of the pandemic, the cdc is warning new variants could wipe out all the progress we ve made recently if we let our guard down. but first, we begin with our colleague natasha chen. she joins us in georgia. good morning. there is new surveillance video from close to one of the scenes of those murders. what can you tell us this morning? yeah, poppy, it was actually those surveillance images that authorities released on tuesday evening that actually prompted the suspect s parents to call police. they were able to help identify him. and because of that, police then tracked his cell phone and stopped him as he was going south. investigators believe he was headed to florida to perhaps commit similar attacks. so the reason this was not worse, the reason he s in custody here in cherokee county is because his parents called in durks to those surveillance images. her
