Shitalakkhya launch capsize: Death toll rises to 35 BSS 6th April, 2021 11:44:59 Six more bodies were recovered from Shitalakkya river this morning (Tuesday) a day after wrapping up two-day salvage operation following a Munshiganj-bound passenger launch capsized, climbing the death toll to 35. The bodies have been floating between Char Syedpur and Shah Cement Factory area in the river since 6:00am, said Younus, Sub-Inspector of River Police in Narayanganj. On information, river police searched and recovered the bodies till 10:30am on Tuesday, he said. With the latest recovery, the death toll rose to 35 as the leaders of the launch owners association claimed that over 70 passengers were on board of the passenger launch.

HC Quashes PSA Orders Against Pulwama Duo SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir High Court has quashed detention orders under the Public Safety Act against two persons and ordered their released forthwith “if not otherwise required in any other case.” “The substantive right of the (detainee) to have necessary material has been violated and the same being sufficient ground for quashing of the detention order, the Court need not go into other aspects of the case,” a bench of Justice Puneet Gupta said while quashing PSA detention orders passed by Deputy Commissioner Pulwama against two local residents, Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh and Waqar Younis Sheikh respectively. The PSA orders were passed against the duo on the same date June 20, last year.
