Melissa Harkreader named principal of Mt Pleasant Middle School

The Daily Herald Longtime educator and school administrator Melissa Harkreader is immediately taking on the role as the new principal of Mt. Pleasant Middle School of the Visual and Performing Arts. The change was announced by Maury County Public Schools Tuesday afternoon. I m excited to announce I ll be serving you and the Mount Pleasant community as principal of Mt. Pleasant Middle School, Harkreader said in a press released shared by the school district. Harkreader succeeds the position from Dr. Tim Drinkwine, who has served in the role since 2018. Maury County residents urged to stay inside amid manhunt near Hampshire Pike

Suspect captured following a manhunt in Maury County WTVF and last updated 2021-05-13 22:22:32-04 MAURY COUNTY, Tenn. (WTVF) — A suspect was taken into custody following a multi-county police chase and manhunt in Maury County. The police chase began in Hickman County and continued into Maury County, ending when the vehicle, which was being chased by Centerville Police officers, crashed on Hampshire Pike Thursday afternoon. The suspect ran into the woods, but his female passenger suffered minor injuries and was transported to Maury Regional Medical Center. Officials asked people to avoid the area and stay in their homes with the doors locked, specifically for those on the south side of Hampshire Pike, while they searched for the suspect. They also urged anyone living in the area of Cross Bridges and Canaan Road to not leave keys in ATVs, UTVs or vehicles.

Most Maury County Public Schools students in school after shift to remote

The Daily Herald Following an extended transition to remote learning due to COVID-19, all of Maury County Public Schools campuses have returned to in-person classes in January. As of Tuesday, school district reports indicate that a total of 43 students and 14 educators and staff remain at home after testing positive for the virus, maintaining a low spread rate in the district. The Hampshire Unit School boys high school basketball team, the only group of students assigned to actively quarantine from the virus are scheduled to return to campus on Wednesday. MCPS employs more than 900 teachers and 500 staff members who serve about 13,000 students.

Maury County Public Schools pivots to remote learning before break

The Daily Herald Just one day before starting its two-week winter break, Maury County Public Schools pivoted all of its more than 12,000 students to continue their studies from home on Friday. The announcement left one day of remote learning before the start of the local school system’s scheduled winter break for the coming holidays. The school district shared plans for the shift as a total of 103 students remained at home after testing positive for the coronavirus and 91 staff members remained at home after either testing positive or displaying symptoms of the virus. With a total of 983 active cases of the virus reported in the county that day, the school district surpassed its appropriate threshold for active cases enter a high level for the local presence of the virus and sparking a shift to remote learning for the final day before the break.
