Just one day before starting its two-week winter break, Maury County Public Schools pivoted all of its more than 12,000 students to continue their studies from home on Friday.
The announcement left one day of remote learning before the start of the local school system’s scheduled winter break for the coming holidays.
The school district shared plans for the shift as a total of 103 students remained at home after testing positive for the coronavirus and 91 staff members remained at home after either testing positive or displaying symptoms of the virus.
With a total of 983 active cases of the virus reported in the county that day, the school district surpassed its appropriate threshold for active cases enter a "high" level for the local presence of the virus and sparking a shift to remote learning for the final day before the break.
