Embattled High Court Judge and former secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) Justice Lloyd Lloyd Muhala has been stripped off his judicial powers to preside over cases in the court of law due to him facing criminal charges.
Registrar of the High Court and Supreme Court of Appeal Gladys Gondwe has confirmed that Muhara no longer sits on the bench.
However, in a twist of events, Ombudsman Martha Chizuma also synchronically ordered the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to appraise whether or not Justice Muhara was felicitous and judiciary suitable to serve as a judge in the High Court of Malawi.

The Malawi Human Rights Commission(MHRC) has commended the Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda’s led Supreme Court of Malawi for abolishing death sentence in country as right step towards restoring dignity to human rights especially right to life.

Almost nine months after the mysterious death of head of Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in the Malawi Police Service, the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has began investigations into his death, Nyasa Times has established.
Executive Secretary for the umbrella, rights body, Habiba Osman confirming the development, said: “I can confirm that we have indeed embarked on the investigations into the death of the late Bob Mtekama. The investigations stalled due to the ravaging Covid-19 pandemic, which has rampaging the globe resulting in over 3 million people losing their lives.
“This (increased) is a worrisome development in as far as promoting girl-child rights is concerned.”
