Capitalizing on the growing kosher scene in Providence, The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island launches a new food competition on June 1. Top Nosh will not just highlight kosher food and vegan restaurants, it will also raise money for a food pantry.
For an $18 dining pass, participants can enjoy restaurant discounts and specials for the month of June. Rugelach, bagels, egg creams and more are featured items.
Lisa Maybruch said that in creating Top Nosh, she was inspired by Rhode Island Food Fights. Those culinary competitions, run by Jim Nellis, feature a range of foods from burgers to cupcakes to crown the best.

Hanuka didn’t discover baking until completing his mandatory service in the Israeli army. After learning from mentors in Tel Aviv and opening a bakery in Shanghai, his wanderlust took him to Johnson and Wales University’s College of Culinary Arts in Providence.
After graduation and marriage, he was eager to open a bakery, but was intimidated by talk of business plans and investors. So he chose a simpler path. “We just put a post on Facebook.”
