Capitalizing on the growing kosher scene in Providence, The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island launches a new food competition on June 1. Top Nosh will not just highlight kosher food and vegan restaurants, it will also raise money for a food pantry.
For an $18 dining pass, participants can enjoy restaurant discounts and specials for the month of June. Rugelach, bagels, egg creams and more are featured items.
Lisa Maybruch said that in creating Top Nosh, she was inspired by Rhode Island Food Fights. Those culinary competitions, run by Jim Nellis, feature a range of foods from burgers to cupcakes to crown the best.
PROVIDENCE
Wait no more. March 3 is the day Bubbie s opens for a Passover pop-up in a 30-foot hallway in what will be their permanent home at 727 Hope St.
Owners and chefs Jeff Ingber and Freda Ronkin are no strangers to the world of kosher cooking, catering and products. They are both elated to begin the next chapter in their careers with Bubbie s Market & Deli full of freshly prepared foods and a deli counter.
But for now the low-tech pop-up, as Ingber describes it, will offer the groceries for Passover including matzo, condiments, gefilte fish and macarons. In all, they will be carrying over 400 Passover items under the kosher supervision of RI Kosher. Access to the market is through the back of the store.
PROVIDENCE What the Davis family built in Providence will not soon be forgotten. The taste of many people s childhoods and history were etched at Davis Dairy Products.
But after a fire destroyed the Hope Street building housing their business in May, they ve decided not to reopen their Jewish kosher deli market, the last of its kind in Providence, where there once were many. Our decision to close the retail store was extremely difficult, said Mark Glazer, co-owner with wife Lori Davis Glazer and father-in-law Joslin Josh Davis. It has been part of their family since 1906. We have sold delicacies such as fresh-cooked corned beef, chopped liver, pastrami and hand-sliced Nova Scotia lox, as well as our fresh cream cheese, he said. And, of course, we have also always carried a large selection of kosher groceries.
