The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has issued a cautionary advisory to taxpayers regarding fake summons sent by fraudsters. Taxpayers are urged to verify the authenticity of any summons received by checking the official CBIC website and reporting suspicious notices to the jurisdiction office immediately. This advisory comes after the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) observed instances of individuals sending fake summons to taxpayers, intending to commit fraud.
The company has received a show cause cum demand notice from the Directorate General of GST Intelligence, Mumbai zonal unit under Section 74(5) of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 (“the Act”), October 6, 2023 alleging a tax demand of Rs 38,99,77,849, the company said in an exchange filing.

The mastermind Rishabh Jain, aged 30, a resident of Delhi, according to the release, had hired 10 employees to operate these fake firms. The mastermind was arrested on Sunday and produced before Economic Offence Court, Jaipur, and is remanded for judicial custody till July 7, 2023.
