Burren Slow Food Festival - virtual
15th April 2021 by Burren Smokehouse.
Last year, the pandemic and ensuing restrictions came as a surprise for us, so we were not able to organise an alternative festival. This year, we will be having a
virtual celebration of all that is local foods, chefs and even music!
Put the dates into your calendar: April 29
th to May 4
So how will this work?
Every night, the Burren Ecotourism Network will host an event live on their Facebook page showing a chef and a food producer (or a distiller and a brewer in one case!) who talk about the foods used in a prepared dish. Each session is hosted by a member of the Burren Ecotourism Network in their own venue throughout the Burren, like the Doolin Inn in Doolin, or Gregans Castle Hotel in Ballyvaughan.

The Burren Ecotourism Network is celebrating its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of growth, achievements and awards which have seen it become a worldwide leader in sustainable tourism.
The network which now consists of nearly 70 tourism businesses has grown from 18 founding members when it was launched by Darina Allen and then Mayor of Clare, Councillor Christy Curtin at Gregans Castle Hotel on March 3, 2011.
Members range from operators like Burren Fine Wine & Foods and Marie McGauran’s Burren Walks to iconic tourist attractions such as the Cliffs of Moher. Businesses include those from hospitality, food, farming, activities, culture and heritage sectors, all committed to sustainable tourism in the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark.

Burren Baskets
Members of the Burren Food Trail have launched the “Burren Baskets” in direct response to the adverse effect on product sales and food tourism in the region as a result of the global Covid-19 pandemic. They are experiencing such a success, however, that these gift hampers are here to stay! The initiative is a collaboration featuring some of the area’s best known award-winning artisan food producers, such as St Tola Irish Goat Cheese, Aillwee Cave, Market House Ennistymon, Burren Fine Wine & Food, Gregans Castle Hotel , Stonecutters Kitchen near the Cliffs of Moher, and the Burren Smokehouse, with the support of the Burren Ecotourism Network.
