The Colorado Eagles will wrap up their two-game series with the Bakersfield Condors on Wednesday night. Colorado is coming off of a 6-2 loss to the Condors on Tuesday.
The Bakersfield Condors broke open a 2-2 deadlock in the third period by scoring four unanswered goals to defeat the Colorado Eagles, 6-2 on Tuesday. Eagles forwards Cal Burke and Luka Burzan each netted a goal in the loss, while defenseman Matt Abt earned a pair of assists. Hunter Miska suffered the loss in net, surrendering five goals on 32 shots.
Forward Alex Newhook, who was a first-round pick (#16 overall) of the Avalanche in 2019, skated in his first professional game last night against Bakersfield. Last week saw the pro debuts of rookie defenseman Nate Clurman (sixth-round selection of Colorado in 2016) and forward Sampo Ranta who was selected by the Avalanche in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft. The Sharks aren t retaining any salary in the trade, but the Minnesota Wild are already paying 50% of Dubnyk s earnings thanks to the offseason trade that sent the veteran netminder to San Jose, according to The Athletic s Peter Baugh.
Dubnyk s posted a .898 save percentage in 17 games this season and struggled last year as well. The West-leading Avalanche were known to be hunting for a backup goalie behind starter Philipp Grubauer ahead of the April 12 trade deadline as Colorado had their championship hopes dashed in the bubble last summer due to a slew of injuries in goal.

The Buffalo Sabres jump-started the final 24 hours before Monday’s 3 p.m. ET trade deadline on Sunday night by dealing forward Taylor Hall to the Boston Bruins. According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, Hall and forward Curtis Lazar will go to the Bruins in exchange for a second-round draft pick and forward Anders Bjork.
Hall, the former MVP for the New Jersey Devils, signed a one-year contract with the Sabres last offseason, and Buffalo wanted to move him before he becomes a free agent again this summer.
