Port Fairy SES Unit left without a home, as current base is condemned
Port Fairy’s SES unit has been left homeless, after their Sackville Street base was found to be an unacceptable safety risk.
The Unit was informed on Friday that they would no longer be able to operate out of the base, due to a risk of electrocution and mould embedded in the building’s frame.
Unit Controller Stephen McDowell, said they were now scrambling to find a temporary home for their vehicles and equipment. At this stage we basically don t have a home he said.

Local Charities Slugged With New Bin Tax
Local charities are set to be slugged thousands of dollars as the state government s increased bin tax comes into play.
Member for South West Coast Roma Britnell says charities and not-for-profits, like WDEA Works Social Enterprises, will be hit hard with the Municipal and Industrial Landfill Levy increasing by 60 per cent.

Ms Britnell raised the matter in Parliament last week and called on the Government to give charities and not for profits a break.
Results
Operation Crossway targeted safety, governance and compliance over two days in late April at the Port of Portland.
Heavy vehicle drivers, marine and port operations staff and crew of both local fishing industry and international vessels were searched.

There were 350 port access authority checks of persons accessing port related areas, with 4 instances of identified breaches.
Multiple canine drug sweeps and physical searches of vehicles, vessels and individuals
96 breath tests were conducted with no positive results.
72 Preliminary oral fluid tests (drugs) were conducted which returned 2 positive results.
54 Penalty Infringement Notices were issued.
14 charges were laid relating to criminal, driving, or vehicle offences, with a further 8 charges expected to be laid on summons.
Local Festival Receives Major Boost
Loch Hart Music Festival has received a financial boost to begin locking in plans for the 2021 event.
The festival based on the Great Ocean Road in Princetown has scored $75,000, as the event looks to return in November after its cancellation last year.

Director Jayden Bath says the funding is a huge help to the growing festival We started in 2018 and we had just under 500 people at that festival and then in 2019 we doubled to just under 1,000, in 2020 we don t know what would ve happened but we were pretty excited we were going to come back with that growth, Mr. Bath said.

Blue Sausages to help raise funds and awareness for important cause
Warrnambool s Lucas Brothers Butchers will be selling blue sausages this weekend, to raise funds for the important work of Dolly s Dream.
Do It For Dolly Day is this Friday (May 14), It aims to create a kinder world and works to prevent other precious lives being lost by educating and empowering families and schools to end all forms of bullying.
It ll mark the second year that Lucas Brother s have jumped behind the cause, after learning of the work of Dolly s Dream through Peter McEwan, who asked them to attempt some blue sausages last year.
