The Supreme Court on Monday sought the Gujarat government's response on the bail pleas of some convicts sentenced to life imprisonment in the 2002 Godhra train coach-burning case.
Godhra convict gets bail: The Supreme Court bench said the application of bail made by accused Faruk is granted and noted that he has been in custody since 2004, and also his appeal against conviction was pending before the top court.
Haaji Bilal, one of the convicts in the infamous 2002 Sabarmati train carnage in the Godhra case, died of poor health at a hospital in Vadodara on Friday, said the police.

2002 Godhra train coach fire: Key accused held after 19 years in Gujarat
Almost 19 years after a mob torched a coach of Sabarmati Express at Godhra station in Panchmahal district of Gujarat which caused the death of 59 karsevaks , police has nabbed key accused, Rafiq Hussain Bhatuk, from Godhra town, an officer said on Monday. Bhatuk (51) was part of the core group of the accused persons involved in the entire conspiracy. He has been on the run for the last 19 years, said Panchmahal Superintendent of Police Leena Patil.
Based on a specific tip-off, a team of Godhra police raided a house in Signal Falia area located near the railway station on Sunday night and picked up Bhatuk, Patil said.
