karsevaks, police has nabbed key accused, Rafiq Hussain Bhatuk, from Godhra town, an officer said on Monday.
Bhatuk (51) was part of the “core group” of the accused persons involved in the entire conspiracy. He has been on the run for the last 19 years, said Panchmahal superintendent of police (SP) Leena Patil. Based on a specific tip-off, a team of Godhra police raided a house in Signal Falia area located near the railway station on Sunday night and picked up Bhatuk, Patil told

VADODARA: Rafik Bhatuk, a prime accused in the 2002 Godhra Sabarmati Express carnage case was held by the Godhra police on Friday. Bhatuk was nabbed from Godhra itself where he had returned after staying outside the state for quite some time.
The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Panchmahal police and Godhra town police raided a house in the Signal Falia locality in the town and nabbed Bhatuk. He used to sell fruits to earn a living.
Bhatuk along with other prime accused was accused of dousing the S-6 coach in the Sabarmati Express with petrol. The coach was then set ablaze by someone else. As many as 59 Ramsevaks who were returning from Ayodhya were killed in the incident triggering communal riots in the state.

SURAT: In the latest development of the age-old Sabarmati Express burning case, Gujrat police have nabbed the prime accused of the ghastly incident after 19 long years.
According to reports, the prime accused identified as Rafiq Hussain Bhatuk was behind the death of 59 karsevaks who were charred to death in the Sabarmati Express coach.
Meanwhile, Panchmahal Superintendent of Police Leena Patil speaking to the media said that the 51-year old Bhatuk who used to work as a labourer at Godhra railway station was part of the core group of the culprits who hatched the entire conspiracy and was absconding from 19 years since the incident took place and was working as a labour in Delhi.

Gandhinagar, Feb 16 : A key conspirator in the infamous 2002 Godhra train burning case who was on the run for the last 19 years was arrested from Godhra town, police said on Tuesday.
Panchmahal police claimed that arrested accused Rafiq Hussain Bhatuk, 51, was part of the core group of culprits involved in the conspiracy, wherein a mob had torched a coach of Sabarmati Express at the Godhra station in Panchmahal district of Gujarat on February 27, 2002, which caused the death of 59 karsevaks .
